Q: Why join the Family Support
for Healthy Minds?
A: Individuals living with
mental illness and their families can obtain support and information to
help overcome difficulties. We achieve this through various means such
as inviting experts in different fields to speak at monthly meetings about
developments in medication, treatments, social benefits and public resources.
If you have a family member who suffers from a mental or emotional health
problem, and you require Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese) speaking assistance,
please contact us.
Q:
Are there any responsibilities and fees to join Family Support for Healthy
Minds?
A:
You do not have to assume any responsibilities, but an annual family membership
fee of $25/year is requested. You can attend
the monthly meetings, which are held on the 3rd Saturday of each month
from 10:00 to 12:00 AM.
Q: What are the organization’s current
activities?
A:
Our original mission was to provide a supportive group for families to
overcome stigma and become educated about how to cope with mental illness,
and we have ongoing activities for these purposes.
We are also in the midst of applying for non-profit status in order to
establish some retail businesses. The main purposes of these proposed
businesses are to provide opportunities for mental health consumers to
practice independent living skills and attain self-sufficiency through
internships offered by the organization’s retail businesses.
